IPL 2022: World’s best finisher MS Dhoni’s cameo take Chennai Super Kings home

Chennai Super Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by 3 wickets in a nail-biter at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium. CSK chased down the target of 156 on the final ball with MS Dhoni hitting the winning boundary. MS Dhoni scored the last 16 runs needed off 4 balls to ensure MI’s winless streak continues. Dhoni remained unbeaten on 28 to ensure the thrilling victory for his side.

After opting to bowl first, CSK pacer Mukesh Choudhary scythed through Mumbai Indians’ top order to remove Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan for a duck in the very first over. He then removed Dewald Brevis (7) to reduce MI to 23/3 in three overs. Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma looked to steady MI innings, but Mitchell Santner struck to remove the in-form Yadav for 32.

Kieron Pollard yet again failed to score good runs and went back for 14. Youngster Varma notched up a brilliant half-century to bail Mumbai out of a precarious position. Varma’s fighting 51-runs powered MI to post a defendable total of 155/7. For CSK, Mukesh Choudhary took three wickets while Dwayne Bravo bagged two.

In response, CSK had a poor start as Daniel Sams dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad (0) and Santner (11) very early. Robin Uthappa alongside Ambati Rayudu steadied CSK’s innings by adding 50-runs. For CSK, Rayudu top-scored with 40-runs, while Uthappa chipped in with a 30.

MI made the chase a tough one by taking wickets at crucial moments. Dwaine Pretorius batted sensibly and contributed useful 22-runs towards the end. MS Dhoni stood tall to stay in the hunt and clinched the victory for CSK.
