Give Prithvi a chance in Gill’s place, says former Indian cricketer Gambhir

After facing a humiliating defeat in the first T20I against New Zealand, India edged past the Blackcaps in a low-scoring second T20I to level the three-match series. Men in blue are all set to take the challenge and eye to secure a win in the third and final T20I to clinch the series. The series decider will be played on February 1 (Wednesday) at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

In both the T20Is, opener Shubman Gill failed to make an impact, getting out for scores of 7 and 11. Those were a poor display from the young batter who was in terrific form in the recently concluded ODI series, where he smashed a double ton and a century against the Blackcaps.

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir said that the Indian team management can give a chance to Prithvi Shaw, who is also a part of the squad, in place of Gill.

Gambhir feels that Gill’s basic game or his batting approach suits the ODI format more than T20 cricket. On the contrary, Prithvi Shaw is an exciting young player, known for his attacking game, which suits T20 cricket more.

Gambhir admitted that Prithvi has a flair and his basic instinctive game is made for T20 cricket. The former cricketer believes that if Prithvi gets chances to play consistently, he can do wonders. Gambhir concluded that Gill is a great player, but he has to learn quickly and adapt to the T20 format and the same will decide whether he will be able to play all three formats of the game.
