Rajasthan Royals closes in on IPL 2022 playoffs berth after beating Lucknow Super Giants by 24 runs at the Brabourne Stadium. Both RR and LSG are now tied on 16 points from 13 matches and need another win to confirm their playoff spot. Chasing a target of 179, RR restricted LSG to 154/8 with a sublime bowling display. Trent Boult was the pick of the bowlers for RR with figures of 2/18.
After opting to bat first, RR had a poor start as Avesh Khan cleaned up their talismanic batter Jos Butler cheaply on 2. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson added 64-runs for the second wicket before Jason Holder dismissed Samson for 32. Jaiswal took on the LSG bowlers and smashed them to all parts of the ground during his knock of 41-runs.
Devdutt Padikkal played a brilliant cameo of 39-runs to keep the run rate going. Boult chipped in with an important 17-run and helped his side to post a defendable total of 178/6 in 20 overs. Ravi Bishnoi was the most successful bowler for LSG, picking 2/31 in four overs.
In reply, LSG got off to a terrible start as Boult dismissed Quinton de Kock (7) and Ayush Badoni (0) in successive deliveries. LSG went into deep trouble when Prasidh Krishna dismissed KL Rahul for just 10.
Deepak Hooda (59) and Krunal Pandya (25) kept the fight on by adding 65-runs. However, RR bowlers kept things tight and took regular wickets to put LSG on the back foot. Krishna and Obed McCoy scalped two wickets each.
