Senuran Muthusamy was recalled as the Proteas named three spinners for the Test series against Bangladesh

Bangla National Cricket Stadium: In late October 2024, all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy earned a recall to South Africa’s 15-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test tour against Bangladesh. He finds himself in a South Africa Test team for the first time since his last appearance in March 2023. The 30-year-old All-rounder has three Test caps and picked two wickets so far for South Africa. Overall, Senuran Muthusamy has taken 247 first-class wickets and amassed nearly 5,000 runs at an average of 30.41.

The all-rounder Muthusamy, who bowls left-arm orthodox, is one of three frontline spinners in the South Africa squad touring Bangladesh alongside Keshav Maharaj and Dane Piedt. South Africa’s Test head coach Shukri Conrad said, “I want to thank both boards, like Cricket South Africa and the Bangladesh Cricket Board, for ensuring the series goes ahead.

Bangladesh is always a tough place to tour. Because they’ve become a formidable side at home, and we have to be prepared for the challenge that awaits us. Therefore, we have chosen a squad for the conditions that we are expecting to greet us when we get there. We have three frontline spinners, and all of them can step up at any time, whenever they are needed. This is a great chance for someone like all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy, who has the potential to make a mark with both ball and bat. We are looking forward to seeing what he can offer.

Overall, to meet this challenge head-on, we trust the depth and versatility of the squad picked,” said Test head coach Shukri Conrad. Expectedly, Kagiso Rabada will spearhead the pace attack, with Nandre Burger, World Sports Betting Western Province’s Dane Paterson, and DP World Lions all-rounder Wiaan Mulder. Till November, Gerald Coetzee and Marco Jansen haven’t been included as the duo is going through a 12-week conditioning block.

Warriors Batter Matthew Breetzke, who was part of South Africa’s recent Test tour of the West Indies, is the only uncapped player in the Test squad. Temba Bavuma will lead the two-match ICC World Test Championship series that begins on October 21. South Africa will also have the services of Test batting coach Ashwell Prince, who will return for the tour of Bangladesh.

The squad will attend a red-ball camp at the Centre of Excellence in Pretoria from October 12-14, before departing for Bangladesh from OR Tambo International Airport on October 15, 2024. Then, the first Test match between Bangladesh and South Africa will take place from October 21 to 25 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka.

After that, South Africa and Bangladesh teams will travel to Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram for the second test match, scheduled to take place from October 29 to November 2. For both teams, these two matches are crucial to keeping themselves in contention for the race to the upcoming World Test Championship final.
