After craving for victory against Rajasthan Royals for the last five years, Mumbai Indians (MI) have finally achieved that feat by defeating Rajasthan Royals by 57 runs this season. Batting first Mumbai posted a target of 194 runs with the help of Suryakumar Yadav’s (79*) marvelous innings. He was also handed with the Man of the Match award for his brilliant innings with the bat. After this win, the defending champion has reached the top in the points table.
The Royals team lost all of their wickets and could score only 136 runs against this huge target. Asides from Jos Buttler (70) others gave up their wicket easily. For Mumbai, Jasprit Bumrah took 4 wickets for 20 runs and played a crucial part in this victory. Jasprit got some assistance from Trent Boult who also took 2 wickets.
The Rajasthan Royals came out with a huge target to chase and looked under pressure right from the start. In the very first over of the innings, young batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal (0) was dismissed by Trent Boult while captain Steve Smith (6) lost his wicket the next over. All hopes were placed on RR’s star batsman Sanju Samson, but he returned to the pavilion without scoring runs. Butler held on to one end and went on to score a half-century. But there was no support provided from the other end of the pitch. After this win, Mumbai now tops the points table.
