Beleaguered Delhi Capitals (DC) held their nerves to edge out Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 15 runs in a high-scoring match in Dharamsala. Already out of the playoff race, DC players had nothing to lose and gave out their best to beat Punjab Kings, knocking them out of the playoff race. Liam Livingstone’s terrific knock of 94 packed with 5 fours and 9 sixes went in vain as DC bowlers kept their calm to successfully defend a big target of 214. For DC, Ishant Sharma and Anrich Nortje bagged two wickets each.

Batting first, David Warner and Prithvi Shaw gave DC the best start of the season, adding 94 runs for the opening wicket. DC skipper Warner (46) missed out on his half-century as Shikhar Dhawan dived to take a stunning catch. Shaw, who made his last IPL appearance on April 20, made a fine comeback and smashed a 38-ball 54.

Rilee Rossouw exhibited some exceptional stroke play in a 37-ball 82*, hitting 6 fours and 6 sixes with an amazing strike rate of 221. Phil Salt chipped in with an unbeaten 26 as DC posted 213/2, their first 200-plus total of this season.

In reply, Punjab Kings lost their captain Dhawan early for a duck. But Prabhsimran Singh (22) and Atharva Taide put up a fine partnership of 50-run before Axar Patel dismissed the former. Taide then joined with Livingstone, adding 78 runs to keep the hosts alive in the contest. Taide retired hurt at 55. Livingstone failed to take his side home as he lacked good support from other batters. Taking regular wickets helped DC to win the match comfortably.
