A total of 422 runs were scored during the battle between Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants at the Brabourne Stadium. In the end, it was the IPL newbie LSG who had the last laugh as they chased down 211 with six wickets and three deliveries to spare. LSG was in full joy as they clinched their first-ever victory in IPL.
After being put in to bat, CSK lost Ruturaj Gaikwad early as Ravi Bishnoi made a direct hit when Ruturaj was short of his crease. Robin Uthappa and Moeen Ali played brilliantly to add runs. Uthappa reached his fifty with some fine hitting before Bishnoi trapped him LBW.
Later on, Avesh Khan cleaned up Ali on 35-runs. Shivam Dube batted aggressively and scored 49-runs with a strike rate of 163.33. CSK skipper Ravindra Jadeja (17) and MS Dhoni (16) played little came at the end to post 210/7.
In response, LSG skipper KL Rahul (40) and Quinton de Kock (61) gave a solid start to their side. CSK gifted lifelines for both openers by dropping the catches. Both used it to great effect and added 91-runs for the opening wicket. Dwaine Pretorius brought CSK back into the game by dismissing both the openers.
Then it was Evin Lewis’ show as he remained a nightmare for CSK bowlers. Meanwhile, Dwayne Bravo dismissed Deepak Hooda (13) to become the leading wicket-taker in the history of the tournament. It was the 19th over that made the difference as Dube conceded 25-runs. Ayush Badoni, who hit the winning runs, scored 19 off just 9 balls. Lewis (55) took LSG home with his power-hitting.
