India’s U-19 World Cup stars struck gold on day 2 of the IPL 2022 mega auction. Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Raj Bawa, and skipper Yash Dhull were all picked by a franchise on Sunday, after playing a major part in lifting the fifth U-19 World Cup trophy for India earlier this month. Indian U-19 captain Yash Dhull was picked by Delhi Capitals for 50 lakhs.
India U-19 all-rounder Hangargekar entered the auction at a base price of 30 lakh. Initially, Mumbai Indians placed their bid to fill in the place of Hardik Pandya. Later on, Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings joined the fray. Finally, the four-time IPL winners CSK won the bid and bought the youngster for INR 1.5 crore.
Raj Bawa, a prominent member of India’s U-19 World Cup-winning team, had a field day in the auction. He was roped in by Punjab Kings for a whopping INR 2 crore. Bawa had a base price of INR 20 Lakh. Punjab Kings won the bid after battling it intensely with Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians.
Raj Bawa played an incredible role in the U-19 World Cup, claiming nine wickets and scoring 252 runs in six matches. In the final against England, the 19-year-old scalped a five-wicket haul and helped India to reach yet another title.
Ishan Kishan was the most expensive buy at INR 15.25 crore for Mumbai Indians. Deepak Chahar was roped in by CSK for INR 14 crore. Meanwhile, Avesh Khan emerged as the costliest uncapped player in auction history when he was picked by Lucknow Super Giants for INR 10 crore.
