India crushed West Indies by six wickets in the first ODI in Ahmedabad. India scripted a comfortable victory in their 1000th ODI match. Men in blue dominated the game with a clinical bowling performance from their spin duo Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma completed his 44th ODI fifty with fine hitting at the top.
After electing to bowl first, the hosts bundled out the Windies for 176. Windies got off to a slow start after Mohammed Siraj bowled out Shai Hope in the third over. Later on, Sundar pegge
Windies kept losing wickets regularly and were reduced to 79/7. However, good batting from Jason Holder (57) and Fabien Allen (29) helped Windies to reach a respectable total. Chahal finished the top with four wickets. While Sundar scalped three wickets, Prasidh Krishna picked two wickets.
Chasing a target of 177, Rohit and Ishan Kishan (28) gave an excellent start to their side. Both added 84-run for the first wicket before Alzarri Joseph trapped Rohit (60) in front of the wicket. Virat Kohli started with two boundaries, but Joseph deceived him with a well-directed short ball.
Suryakumar Yadav (34) and debutant Deepak Hooda (26) played brilliantly without taking many risks. Both added 62-run for the fifth wicket and wrapped up the proceedings. Chahal is adjudged the Man of the Match for his figures of 4/49. The second ODI will be played on 9th February.
