Indian skipper Virat Kohli revealed his disappointment after the first Test match against England ended in a draw due to rain. This was the first match of the World Test Championship 2023 cycle; both India and England have got four points each as the match ended in a draw. Virat Kohli bitterly regretted the bad timing of rain as it washed out day 5. Kohli admitted that his team had good chance to win the match and take a 1-0 lead in the series.
India was in a good position to deliver an enthralling finish by reaching the target on the final day, but the weather condition in Nottingham ruined everything. Kohli said that India has started well in the five-match test series and pointed out the importance of getting a lead in the first innings of a Test match.
Virat Kohli said they expected the rain on day 3 or 4, but it chose day 5 when the Indian batsmen were looking to crack the target. Kohli added that his team played strong and had the chance to complete it with a win as the match headed into day five. Kohli added that India was right on the top and it was a shame that they could not complete day five.
Virat Kohli said the final day of the match is for winning and not for survival. Kohli praised the Indian bowlers batting in the first innings, which helped India get a 95 run lead. Kohli intimated that he was happy with the way his batsmen started the chase in the second innings. The action between India and England moves to the Lord’s for the second match which starts on 12th August.
