Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 14-runs in a high-scoring IPL 2022 Eliminator. RCB will now take on Rajasthan Royals for a place in the final. Chasing a big target of 208, LSG was powered by captain KL Rahul’s entertaining knock of 79-runs and his partnership with Deepak Hooda of 96-runs at one stage had put LSG in control. However, RCB clawed their way back into the contest in the death overs.
Batting first, RCB captain Faf du Plessis departed for a golden duck. But Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar took the counter-attack to add 66-runs before Avesh Khan dismissed Kohli for 25. Glenn Maxwell did not last long and went back for just 9. LSG missed out on good catch chances for Patidar and Dinesh Karthik, which cost them big.
Patidar and Karthik (37) played some delightful shots to add 86-runs in the last five overs. Patidar played one of the best knocks in the IPL playoffs with an unbeaten 112-run knock to power RCB to a mammoth total of 207/4. The right-handed batter registered the fastest ton of the ongoing IPL season.
Mohammed Siraj struck early in reply as Quinton de Kock departed for just 6. Rahul and Hooda (45) played anchoring innings to keep LSG alive in the chase. But an accurate death bowling by Josh Hazlewood and Harshal Patel made it tough for LSG. KL Rahul’s dismissal in the 19th over effectively ended LSG’s hopes. Patel bowled a brilliant final over to secure a memorable win for RCB.
