The ICC on Thursday officially inducted Rahul Dravid into the ICC Hall of Fame, when the Hall of Fame plaque was presented to him by Sunil Gavaskar the former Indian Captain. The ceremony which was brief took place just prior to the final and fifth ODI between West Indies and India at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. He is the fifth Indian player to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.
ICC had announced on July the 2nd the induction along with former Australian Captain Rickey Ponting. Both were inducted at the same time.
Dravid now has joined an exclusive list of Indian cricketers including Bishan Singh Bedi, Kapil Dev, Gavaskar and Anil Kumble.
With an aggregate of 13, 2888 runs during the course of 164 Tests that included 36 centuries and 10,889 runs in 344 ODIs and 12 centuries, was in 2004 named as the ICC Test Player of the Year along with being named as the ICC Cricketer of the Year.
He was also a very brilliant slip player finishing his Test career with 210 catches in 2012, which is still a world record. He had played only one Twenty20 International.
As per the media release by the ICC, Rahul is quoted as having said; “It is a matter of great honour to be named by the ICC in the Cricket Hall of Fame. To find your name in a list of all-time greats across generations is something one only dreams of while setting out on a cricket career and the kind of recognition that would delight any player,”
