Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) produced a brilliant all-round performance to thrash Gujarat Giants (GG) by 8 wickets at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday. RCB registered their second win on the trot in a dominating fashion. Chasing 108 runs, RCB captain Smriti Mandhana hammered a superb 27-ball 43 while Sabbhineni Meghana and Ellyse Perry remained unbeaten on 36 and 23 respectively. Earlier, Sophie Molineux starred for RCB with a three-wicket haul, but it was Renuka Singh, who turned the match in Bangalore’s favor with her early burst of two wickets.
Mandhana’s decision to bowl first was fruitful as Renuka gave her side an excellent start. The right-arm medium pacer stunned the Giants by cleaning up their captain Beth Mooney for just 8 runs. She then got the better of Phoebe Litchfield (5) with Richa Ghosh doing brilliant work behind the stumps. Molineux applied more pressure on the Giants by dismissing Veda Krishnamurthy (9).
Molineux was so quick on the field to run out Harleen Deol who batted well for her 22. The Giants reeled at 70/5 with Georgia Wareham removing experienced batter Ashleigh Gardner cheaply. Sneh Rana chipped in 12 and Dayalan Hemalatha’s unbeaten 25-ball 31 helped the Giants to reach a decent 107/7 in 20 overs.
In reply, Mandhana gave RCB a cracking start, playing shots all around the park. It was a treat for the fans to witness Mandhana in full flow. Sophie Devine departed cheaply while Tanuja Kanwar got the important wicket of Mandhana with a nice caught and bowl. Meghana and Perry stitched a fine 38-run partnership to take RCB home.
The cricketing actions continue in the Women’s T20 League as Mumbai Indians lock horns with UP Warriorz in today’s (February 28) match.
