The inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League is nearing its end. And now we have just two matches left in the tournament, first is the Eliminator which will be played on March 24 (Friday) and the grand finale is scheduled to be held on March 26 (Sunday). Mumbai Indians (MI) and UP Warriorz will lock horns tonight at Dr.DY Patil Sports Stadium in the Eliminator.

After a sensational start to their campaign, it seemed as if MI would comfortably secure their berth in the summit clash of the event. But MI faced their first defeat against UP Warriorz and then suffered their second consecutive loss against Delhi Capitals, who have directly qualified for the final. On the other hand, Warriorz who has been inconsistent throughout the tournament managed to find a place in the Eliminator.

Mumbai Indians’ win against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their last league match will undoubtedly boost the players’ confidence as they prepare to face the Warriorz. But MI’s star middle-order pair, captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat Sciver-Brunt have been struggling to score big in recent games, which is a cause for concern. If they deliver well, then MI can ease past Warriorz.

Hayley Matthews has provided a blistering start to MI during the powerplay and is expected to do the same against Warriorz. Matthews’ opening partner Yastika Bhatia is an aggressive batter who can unleash flurry of boundaries to put pressure on the opponents. If these two get going, then MI could post a competitive total or chase any target. A high-scoring thriller is expected as the pitch at Dr.DY Patil Sports Stadium has been helpful to batters.
