Rashid Khan’s last-over heroics seal Gujarat Titans a crucial win against Rajasthan Royals


Gujarat Titans (GT) breached Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) fortress with Rashid Khan exhibiting a heroic performance in the final over of a nail-biting encounter at Sawai Mansingh Indoor Stadium. Needing 2 runs off the final delivery, Rashid freed his arms to slap the ball up and over point for a boundary, handing GT an incredible win. Rashid, who played a match-winning knock of unbeaten 24, had his arms aloft in celebration. Earlier, GT skipper Shubman Gill played an excellent knock of 72 to keep his side on the line.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, who failed to deliver well in the previous two matches, smashed five boundaries to give RR a fine start. But the left-arm opener perished soon, falling to Umesh Yadav in the 5th over. Jos Butler, who hit a superb century in the last match, departed cheaply for 8.

However, RR captain Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag produced outstanding batting performances to keep their side on top. Both added 130 runs for the third wicket. Parag went back to the dressing room after playing an excellent innings, 48-ball 76. Samson remained unbeaten on 68, blasting seven fours and two sixes while Shimron Hetmyer chipped in with 13*. RR posted a defendable 196 in 20 overs.

Gill and Sai Sudharsan batted brilliantly to give GT a fine start, adding 64 runs for the opening wicket. Kuldeep Sen gave RR a crucial breakthrough in the 9th over, trapping Sudharsan (35) in front of the stumps. The right-arm pacer brought RR on top with a double strike in his next over, dismissing Matthew Wade (4) and Abhinav Manohar (1). But Gill kept playing some elegant shots to keep the scoreboard moving. However, Yuzvendra Chahal’s double strike in his consecutive overs made the game balance. Finally, GT stunned the home crowd by pulling off a thrilling chase, with brilliant knocks from Rahul Tewatia (22) and Rashid.
