Rajasthan Royals (RR) produced a clinical performance to beat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 32 runs in Jaipur. RR played like champions and dethroned CSK as the table-toppers. Chasing 202, Shivam Dube top-scored with a knock of 52 while Jadeja remained unbeaten on 23. CSK batters struggled to find the momentum in the middle overs. For RR, Adam Zampa starred with a three-wicket haul while Ravichandran Ashwin scalped two.
Sanju Samson’s decision to bat first yielded RR a good result as its openers added 86 runs in 8 overs. Ravindra Jadeja gave the much-needed breakthrough by dismissing Jos Butler (27). The young batter Yashasvi Jaiswal ran riot in the pink city and scored runs at an excellent strike rate of over 200. Tushar Deshpande removed Samson who chipped in with 17. And in the same over, he dismissed Jaiswal who top-scored 77 of 43 balls.
Maheesh Theekshana then cleaned up Shimron Hetmyer (8) to slow down the scoring rate. But Dhruv Jurel played a fine cameo of 34 while Devdutt Padikkal remained unbeaten on 27, helping the home side to reach a big total of 202/5 in 20 overs.
In reply, CSK’s chase got off to a slow start, scoring 42 runs in the powerplay overs. Zampa dismissed the in-form batter Devon Conway for just 8. He then removed Ruturaj Gaikwad (47) who looked to take on the charge. This time Ajinkya Rahane failed and walked back after scoring 15. Ambati Rayudu yet again wasted the given chance and went back for a duck. In the 15th over, Zampa removed Moeen Ali who scored a quickfire 23. Dube and Jadeja’s efforts went in vain as RR bowlers bowled brilliantly to seal a win.
