Delhi Capitals bowlers produced a terrific effort to edge past Gujarat Titans by 5 runs

Spirited Delhi Capitals (DC) produced a terrific bowling performance to beat table-toppers Gujarat Titans (GT) by 5 runs in a low-scoring nail-biter on Tuesday. Chasing a gritty 131, GT skipper Hardik Pandya led from the front with an unbeaten knock of 59 while Rahul Tewatia played a cameo of 20. With GT needing 12 runs to win in the final over, DC pacer Ishant Sharma kept his calm and bowled brilliantly to seal the win in Ahmedabad.

DC captain David Warner’s decision to bat first backfired as Mohammed Shami dismissed Phil Salt for a golden duck. In the very next over, Rashid Khan produced a superb effort to run out Warner (2). Shami then shocked the DC dugout by dismissing Rilee Rossouw (8). GT’s senior pacer continued to upset the visitor’s, sending back Manish Pandey (1) and Priyam Garg (10) in the same over.

However, Axar Patel and Aman Hakim Khan rebuild DC’s innings with a crucial partnership of 50 runs. In the 14th over, Mohit Sharma broke the partnership by dismissing Patel (27). Hakim Khan’s (51) fighting half-century and Ripal Patel’s cameo of 23 helped DC to post a decent total of 130/8 in 20 overs.

The Titans’ chase got off to a bad start as Khaleel Ahmed bowled a maiden wicket first over, removing Wriddhiman Saha for a duck. Anrich Nortje then bagged in-form batter Shubman Gill for just 6. Things got worse for the hosts as Ishant and Kuldeep Yadav cleaned up Vijay Shankar (6) and David Miller (0) respectively in a short period.

Pandya and Abhinav Manohar constructed GT’s innings with a fine partnership of 62 runs before Ahmed scalped the latter (26). Tewatia then shifted the momentum towards GT by hitting three consecutive sixes in the penultimate over. But Ishant held his nerve to clinch victory for DC.
