Jasprit Bumrah produced a stellar performance with the ball as India inflicted a crushing 10-wicket win over England in the first ODI at the Oval. Men in blue produced a dominating performance to outplay England in all three departments. Bumrah delivered his A-game to register his career-best figures of 6/19 in ODIs and dismantled the star-studded England batting order for 110-runs. Chasing a mere target of 111, a blistering partnership between Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan helped India to register a remarkable win.
After opting to bowl first, India got off to a dream start as Bumrah and Mohammed Shami took three wickets inside the opening three overs. The 28-year-old pacer initiated the collapse by cleaning up Jason Roy for a duck. Bumrah then outfoxed Joe Root (0) with a shortish delivery. Shami bowled a cracker to dismiss Ben Stokes for a duck.
Very soon, Rishabh Pant took a brilliant catch to dismiss Jonny Bairstow (7). Bumrah then bowled out Livingstone (0) with a late inswinger. England captain Jos Buttler and Moeen Ali (14) managed to stem the flow of wickets for a while before the latter fell to Prasidh Krishna. Buttler, who looked fairly comfortable, finally fell to Shami for 30. Shami ended up with three wickets.
In reply, India skipper Rohit made a mockery of the chase by smashing an unbeaten 76-runs. Dhawan played an unbeaten knock of 31 in his comeback game. This Indian opening duo has stitched 5108 runs in ODIs as an opening pair so far. India leads the three-match series 1-0.
