India touring New Zealand had their 1st ODI match scheduled at Seddon Park in Hamilton on 5th February 2020. New Zealand won the toss and decided to field against the Indian team, as announced Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal batted the first over against New Zealand bowling.
Soon the ODI debutant Prithvi Shaw was caught out for 20(21) runs, and Agarwal followed by towing only 32(31) runs for the team. The Indian skipper Virat Kohli was replaced for the Shaw’s wicket, and Shreyas Iyer walked in for the Agarwal’s wicket.
52-2 in 8.4 overs the partnership began to bat, Iyer after few deliveries started chasing boundaries, New Zealand bowlers like de Grandhomme, Hamish Bennett, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi bowled the over but the Iyer added another 50 to his records. After Kohli’s 51(63) runs KL Rahul came, to continue the partnership.
Bennett handled another over against Iyer, but from 4 balls 8 runs were secured. At 39.1 over KL and Iyer earned 117 runs from 121 balls, and Santner followed by James Neesham’s bowling Iyer recorded his maiden century from 107 balls in the 1st ODI in New Zealand match.
Kohli all teeth and co applauded the young batsman for achieving the record, but in 45.2 over Iyer leaves as a proud batsman from the ground. KL Rahul also proved to be the experienced senior, the batsman chased 88(64) runs. India set a chase of 347-4 in 50 overs.
