India sealed a thumping 74-run win over Thailand to reach the finals of the Women’s Asia Cup. Chasing a target of 149, Thailand women managed to score only 74/9 in 20 overs. It was an exemplary performance by the Indian bowling unit. Bowlers have been the stand-out performers for the Women in blue as they conceded 110+ runs in just one game. Deepti Sharma struck thrice and finished with brilliant figures of 3/7.
Batting first, Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana gave India a good start by scoring 38-runs in 4 overs. Initially, Phannita Maya produced a breakthrough by dismissing Mandhana for 13. Verma then departed after scoring a quick 42-runs. Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur added 42-runs for the third wicket.
Thipatcha Putthawong dismissed Rodrigues on 27 while India skipper Kaur went back after playing a steady knock of 36-runs. Pooja Vastrakar chipped in with 17-runs as India posted a defendable total of 146/6 in 20 overs.
In reply, Thailand had a poor start as their opening duo Nannapat Koncharoenkai (5) and Natthakan Chantam (4) departed cheaply inside the powerplay overs. Deepti, who is the highest wicket-taker in the 2022 Asia Cup troubled the Thailand batters a lot.
Indian bowlers never allowed their opponent batters to settle and score runs easily. Both Naruemol Chaiwai and Nattaya Boochatham scored 21, which remained the highest individual scores for Thailand. India took regular wickets to seal the victory with a big margin. India will lock horns with Sri Lanka in the grand final tomorrow at Sylhet Cricket Stadium.
