India’s former opening batsman Gautam Gambhir has said that Virat Kohli is good in his captainship, but he feels the vice-captain of the team Rohit Sharma is better at leading the team.
Gautam Gambhir when speaking on the Star Sports show Cricket Connected said Virat Kohli of not being a bad captain, but when compared Rohit Sharma as a better captain. He felt there was a huge difference between the quality of captaincy amongst both the players. Gambhir also added that the difference between the leadership of Kohli and Rohit is the record the letter holds in the Indian Premier League and it has to be taken into account when considering a player to lead the team on the International stage.
Mumbai Indian’s captain Rohit Sharma has five IPL titles to his name and is the most successful captain in the history of India’s biggest T20 tournament. On the other hand, Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Kohli asides from having world-class players have failed to lead his team to win the title even once. Since Kohli took the captainship of the team in 2013 the team’s best finish in IPL has been them becoming runners-up in 2016.
Gambhir also said if players are chosen based on their IPL performance then he suggested why don’t the board choose a captain with most IPL titles and not restrict the IPL as a benchmark for batting and bowling performances.
