Defending champions Gujarat Titans thrashed Mumbai Indians by 55 runs

Gujarat Titans produced a brilliant all-round performance to thrash Mumbai Indians by 55 runs in Ahmedabad. MI’s chase of 208 runs never kept going as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Nehal Wadhera top-scored with a cameo of 40 while other batters failed to score runs at a good pace on a big chase. GT’s wrist spinners Noor Ahmad and Rashid Khan bowled well to scalp three and two wickets respectively.

Batting first, GT lost its opener Wriddhiman Saha early for just 4. Shubman Gill and skipper Hardik Pandya added 38 runs before Suryakumar Yadav took a fine catch on the boundary ropes to dismiss Pandya (13). Gill continued with his good run to hit the third fifty of this IPL. GT lost Gill (56) and Vijay Shankar (19) in quick succession.

But Abhinav Manohar played a counter-attacking game and went back after a cameo of 21-ball 42. David Miller (46) also batted aggressively while Rahul Tewatia (20) played a few brilliant shots to clear the boundary ropes. GT scored 77 runs in the last 4 overs to reach a big total of 207/6.

MI’s chase got off to a terrible start as Pandya dismissed Rohit Sharma (2) early in the 2nd over. GT bowlers produced an excellent effort and made it difficult for MI batters to score quick runs. In the 8th over, Rashid picked up the wickets of Ishan Kishan (13) and Tilak Varma (2) to put MI on the back foot. Noor then bagged Cameron Green (33) and Tim David (0) in the same over to add more pressure on the visitors. Most expected Suryakumar walked back for 23 and eventually, MI lost the game.
