BCCI approached Gautam Gambhir for Team India’s Head coach role

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has warned top Indian cricketers about Gautam Gambhir’s coaching tactics, as the veteran star is reportedly being approached to become Team India’s head coach. The BCCI has requested applications for the next India head coach, as Rahul Dravid’s tenure ends after the 2024 T20 World Cup. According to sources, Gambhir, the current KKR mentor, has been asked by the Indian cricket regulatory body to take over the vital post. Meanwhile, several well-known names are in the reckoning.

Not a bad choice, there is no doubt about that, because he is a straightforward person. He knows how to manage and build a team. I rate him high when it comes to the auction. However, there will be no auction for the Indian team. Gambhir, the coach, is a very strong personality, Chopra said.

Gambhir was instrumental in India’s 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup victories, scoring match-winning runs in the finals. He also impressed as an IPL mentor for the Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders. However, Chopra pointed out that Gambhir’s style as a coach is similar to that of a strict father, which may cause veteran players to be cautious.

When there is a transition, a new captain is coming, then yes. However, if the team has a lot of seniors already, I will be a little wary because Gauti’s style of working is almost like a strict father. When the father is rigorous, the children must be a little careful, Chopra added.
