Focused on achieving gold at the Paris Olympics, shuttler Sindhu

PV Sindhu, India’s two-time Olympic medalist, is looking to make history in Paris, setting a high bar for herself in the quadrennial event. The ace shuttler hopes to complete her medal collection with a coveted gold medal at the forthcoming Olympics. Sindhu, who won silver in the Rio Olympics in 2016 and bronze in Tokyo 2020, hopes to become the first Indian athlete to win three individual Olympic medals.

Sindhu expressed excitement and dedication as she reflected on her prior Olympic experiences. That third medal in Paris obviously drives me, and I’m going all hard to get the gold medal. For me, the Olympics is an opportunity to give my 200 percent. The journeys in 2016 and 2020 were fantastic, full of hard work and great moments. As I prepare for Paris 2024, it’s a new beginning, and I have to give my all no matter what, Sindhu told JioCinema.

Sindhu, one of the world’s best players, leans on her prior experiences to fuel her desire for gold. I’ll bring a lot of knowledge from past Olympics to Paris 2024, but I don’t want to grow overconfident about medals. I aim to fulfill the nation’s wishes and win the third medal since winning three medals in a row is no laughing matter.

My thinking is focused on achieving gold, which gives me a lot of inspiration and confidence. My preparations are centered on putting in hard effort while being smart and focused on that specific day, said the 29-year-old Sindhu.

Sindhu respects the level of her opponents in Paris 2024, knowing how hard the fight will be. The Olympics is incredibly competitive, and every athlete is at their peak. The best 10-15 players in the world, including An Se-young, Akane Yamaguchi, Carolina Marin, and Tai Tzu-Ying, all play to the same standard. There are no easy scores at the Olympics, and we must work hard for every point we score against our opponents. Anything can happen at the Olympics; one minor error can change everything.

Sindhu also discussed her experiences working with Indian badminton star Prakash Padukone and their preparations for Paris 2024. This time, we have an entirely new squad, with Padukone sir as my mentor and Agus as my coach. Our practice focuses on making everything precise and to the point. It is fortunate for me that Prakash sir is my mentor and a part of my path, and I hope that his support will help me win that medal.
