Max Verstappen has firmly established himself as the dominant force on the Formula One grid, delivering a record-breaking campaign of F1 2023 supremacy in which he won 19 of the 22 available Grand Prix victories. Verstappen’s winning streak includes a 10-race winning run, a new F1 milestone. Verstappen won his third World Championship with more than double the points of Red Bull teammate and closest competitor Sergio Perez.
Verstappen’s meteoric climb from the youngest-ever F1 rookie to a dominant force has occurred entirely within the Red Bull ranks. Verstappen is under contract with the team until the end of 2028, making the possibility of him spending his whole F1 career within the Red Bull family very real. However, there is no guarantee. The 26-year-old Dutch driver joining Ferrari would be an F1 dream match, uniting the sport’s current most dominant driver and historic team, something Verstappen has recently expressed interest in making a reality.
In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport’s weekly magazine, the Formula 1 champion said of the possibility that Ferrari has an incredible history in this sport and is a great opponent to compete against. When my current contract expires, I will be 31 years old and I think I can still do well.
Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur feels Max Verstappen should “never say never” to racing for the historic Formula One team. Vasseur has now spoken out on the matter, stating that no F1 team boss would not want Verstappen in their lineup. I think that if you ask the 10 team principals on the grid, everybody would be pleased to welcome Max into the team, Vasseur admitted.
Of course, it is not an immediate possibility, with Vasseur noting that Verstappen has a long-term Red Bull contract that runs so far that he confesses “I don’t know” when it will expire. Verstappen might be seen donning the famous red Ferrari as early as 2029, which Vasseur does not rule out happening. Verstappen enters F1 2024 as the frontrunner to achieve a four-time World Champion, matching Sebastian Vettel’s record of four titles with Red Bull between 2010 and 2013.
Meanwhile, Lando Norris will compete in his sixth Formula One season in 2024 after making his debut with McLaren in 2019. While the British driver has built a tremendous reputation over the years, he has yet to join the ranks of winners since McLaren’s performance level hasn’t been sufficient to win a Grand Prix.
