Former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan was appointed as the mentor of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ahead of IPL 2025. At the function, franchise owner Sajiv Goenka presented Zaheer with LSG’s No.34 jersey. The left-arm pacer’s IPL and international career were all spent with the same number. The left-arm pacer’s appointment marks his return to the IPL fold after two years. Earlier, the 45-year-old cricketer having been associated with five-time champions Mumbai Indians from 2018 to 2022.
Zaheer was the director of cricket for the Mumbai Indians before he became the head of global development. With the departure of South African pacer Morne Morkel, who has joined Gautam Gambhir’s coaching staff, LSG does not currently have a bowling coach. It has been learned that Zaheer would spend the off-season participating in player development and scouting initiatives.
Before his coaching career, Zaheer played for three IPL teams — Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Delhi Daredevils. Zaheer featured in 100 matches for these teams, claiming 102 wickets with an economy rate of 7.58. His final appearance in the IPL was in 2017. LSG have Justin Langer as their head coach, replacing Andy Flower in IPL 2024. The Australian is set to continue with his deputies Lance Klusener and Adam Voges.
