Men in Blue produced a dominating performance with the bat to register their fourth-straight win in the ongoing World Cup tournament. Indian star batter Virat Kohli’s ton continued team India’s pursuit of happiness with a 7-wicket win over Bangladesh. Chasing 257, Indian batters attacked the Bangladesh bowlers right from the start and kept the chase well under control. India scripted victory with King Kohli playing a blistering knock of unbeaten 103 and finished off things in style, hitting a six to record his 48th ODI hundred. Kohli is now just one century behind India’s legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar. Kohli also became the fourth batter to reach 26,000 runs across all formats.
Earlier, after Bangladesh got off to a great start with a 93-run opening stand, India choked out the Bangladesh lineup in the middle overs. Both openers Tanzid Hasan (51) and Liton Das (66) scored their respective half-centuries. Bangladesh was eventually reduced to four wickets for a little more than 200 runs.
Their last-recognized duo of Mahmudullah (46) and Mushfiqur Rahim (38) was brought to a stop by a superb stroke of fielding by Ravindra Jadeja, whose spectacular catch at point gave Jasprit Bumrah his first wicket. Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Jadeja all three picked up two wickets each to restrict Bangladesh to 256/8 in 50 overs.
In reply, Rohit Sharma got off to another flying start and appeared to be in command, but the Indian skipper departed on 48. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill cruised to a half-century, eventually falling on 53. Shreyas Iyer chipped in with 19. Kohli and KL Rahul (34) stitched an 83-run partnership to ensure the victory for India.
