Vintage Suryakumar Yadav’s batting effort helped Mumbai Indians (MI) to demolish Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 6 wickets at the Wankhede Stadium.
Suryakumar famously called the 360 batter played a terrific knock of 83 off just 35 balls with an amazing strike rate of 237.14, powering MI to complete the stiff 200-run chase in just 16.3 overs. Young batter Nehal Wadhera also played a fine inning with an unbeaten 52.
Earlier, Jason Behrendorff gave an excellent start to MI with the ball, dismissing Virat Kohli (1) and Anuj Rawat (6) inside the powerplay overs. But RCB skipper Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell played a counter-attacking game and smashed boundaries to score at a quick rate. Both batters were in their top gear and hammered all RCB bowlers to reach their half-centuries.
In the 13th over, Behrendorff came into the attack and cleverly bowled a knuckleball to outfox Maxwell who looked more dangerous on 68. Mahipal Lomror (1) failed to make an impact while Du Plessis walked back after scoring 65. Dinesh Karthik chipped in with 30. MI bowlers fought well and produced a good comeback to restrict RCB to 199/6.
MI’s chase got off to a superb start as Ishan Kishan attacked the RCB bowlers right from the start. Looking for a wicket, Faf brought Wanindu Hasaranga into the attack and he proved his captain’s decision was right, dismissing Rohit Sharma (7) and Ishan (42) in the same over. But from thereon, it was MI’s show as Suryakumar and Wadhera stitched a mouth-watering 140-run partnership to take the game away from RCB and delighted the home crowd with a dominant win.
