The BCCI announced India’s squads for their forthcoming tour of South Africa, where the Men in Blue is scheduled to play three T20Is, as many ODIs, and two Tests. The three-match T20I series is set to begin on December 10. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have taken a break from the white-ball leg of the tour. In the Test series, Rohit will continue to lead the team. Meanwhile, KL Rahul has been named as the ODI captain, while Suryakumar Yadav will continue to command the T20Is.
Another good news for some Indian fans was Sanju Samson made his international comeback after being selected for the ODI team. Samson has been in and out of the Indian team, and the right-handed batter last played an ODI in August 2023 in the West Indies. He went on to play in the T20Is in Ireland. However, the wicketkeeper batter was unable to make the World Cup squad. The 29-year-old made his ODI debut in July 2021 and has played 13 matches in this format, scoring 390 runs with a strike rate of 104.00 and an average of 55.71. Rajat Patidar, who has recovered from injury, has also been included in the ODI squad.
Tamil Nadu cricketer Sai Sudharsan has been called up for his maiden India ODI series. Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal will also feature in the three-match ODI series. Ajinkya Rahane, who was unexpectedly called up for the World Test Championship final earlier this year, failed to find a spot in the Test squad. Rahane has been replaced by Shreyas Iyer.
