Rohit Sharma’s incredible knock and a fine bowling effort from Indian bowlers powered their side to beat Australia by 24 in a Super 8 clash on Monday. With a convincing victory over the Aussies, Men in Blue remains unbeaten in the ongoing T20 World Cup tournament and also secured a spot in the semi-finals. Chasing a massive 206-run target, Australia needed 29 from the final over, Hardik Pandya bowled brilliantly and conceded just 4 runs to hand India a fine victory. India will now play defending champions England in the semi-final on June 27, Thursday at Guyana National Stadium.

Arshdeep Singh stunned the Aussies by dismissing David Warner in the first over but Travis Head played excellent shots to keep the momentum in Australia’s favor. Australia scored 99/2 in just 10 overs. Aussie Captain Mitchell Marsh departed after scoring 37, thanks to Axar Patel who took an outstanding catch near the boundary rope. Head scored his half-century in just 26 deliveries, and Australia needed 107 runs from 60 balls in St Lucia.

However, Australia scored only 181/7 in 20 overs. For Australia, Head played a top-scoring knock of 76, while Glenn Maxwell (20) and Tim David (15) tried to give their all but were outscored by 24 runs. For India, Arshdeep took three wickets while Kuldeep Yadav took two. Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel both claimed one wicket.

Earlier, after losing the toss, India also lost its star batter Virat Kohli for a duck. But Rohit attacked the Aussie pacers to find the fence frequently. The right-handed opener smashed Mitchell Starc for four sixes and a four in an over. Rohit scored his second half-century in just 19 deliveries, which is his best in T20 World Cups. The Indian skipper made 92 runs off 41 balls. Suryakumar Yadav (31), Shivam Dube (28), and Hardik Pandya (27*) played crucial knocks.
