Rishabh Pant’s fiery knock helped DC to overpower GT in a thrilling encounter

Delhi Capitals (DC) bowlers held their nerves to bowl brilliantly and secure an emphatic 4-run win over Gujarat Titans (GT) in a thriller of game at Arun Jaitley Stadium. With this win, DC creeps up to sixth position on the table. On the other hand, things have gotten a bit more challenging for GT with this narrow defeat. Chasing a big 225, Sai Sudharsan played a fine knock of 29-ball 65 to keep GT in the hunt. David Miller’s valiant knock of 23-ball 55 went in vain as Mukesh Kumar successfully defended 19 runs in the final over.

Invited to bat first, DC had a good start as Jake Fraser-McGurk showed aggressive intent right from the start. The young Australian smacked 2 fours and 2 sixes to put up 35 runs in 3 overs. But GT’s medium pacer Sandeep Warrier struck twice in the 4th over to bring his side strong in the game. Noor Ahmed took excellent catches near the boundary ropes to dismiss both DC openers, Frase-McGurk (23) and Prithvi Shaw (11). In his next over, Warrier removed Shai Hope for just 5 with Rashid Khan taking a brilliant running catch.

However, Axar Patel and Rishabh Pant stitched a 113-run partnership to steady DC innings. Axar departed after playing a watchful knock of 66 while Pant was in his element scoring, smashing 5 fours and 8 sixes. The DC skipper played a sensational unbeaten knock of 88, powering his side to 224/4. Tristan Stubbs blazed away to 26 off just 7 balls.

In reply, GT lost their captain Shubman Gill early for just 6. But Wriddhiman Saha (39) and Sudharsan batted well to steady GT’s innings, adding 82 runs for the second wicket. Azmatullah Omarzai and Shahrukh Khan failed to make a good impact. After Miller’s departure, Rashid seemed to be the only hope for GT and he fought well till the last ball. Rashid’s cameo of 21 was not good enough to take GT home.
