Ahmedabad: India and New Zealand are playing 3-match ODI series in India. India won the first match of the series by 59 runs and took an early lead. The second Women’s ODI match between India and New Zealand was held on Sunday (October 27, 2024) in Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first against India. After that, Suzie Bates and Georgia Plimmer gave a joint start for the New Zealand team.
The openers were moving along nicely and they stitched up a brilliant 87-run stand. But Deepti Sharma dismissed Plimmer for 41 off 50, including 6 fours and a six. But on the other side, Bates got to fifty in the 19th over. Two overs later, Lauren Down ran out by Priya Mishra for just 3. After that, Bates was caught and bowled out by Radha Yadav for 58 runs off 70 deliveries which included 8 fours. On the other hand, Captain Sophie Devine started a period of play where New Zealand steadied themselves.
In the next 17 overs, Devine flicked and pulled for boundaries, but in the 32nd over, Radha again stunned New Zealand with her fielding. Because Priya Mishra bowled and Radha sprinted and dived full stretch to have Brooke Halliday for 8. Then, Maddy Green who paired with Sophie Devine, played aggressively and bowled the Indian bowlers. At the same time, Devine got to her 16th ODI fifty off 65 balls in the 41st over and set it up for a solid finish.
Sophie Devine and Maddy Green steadied the innings with a solid 78-run partnership, Green was dismissed by Radha Yadav for 42 off 41 which included 5 fours. Devine continued to score as Gaze joined the team. But Deepti Sharma dismissed Wicketkeeper Izzy Gaze for 11. Radha Yadav dismissed Devine for 79 runs off 86 deliveries which included 7 fours and a six and in the very next ball, Lea Tahuhu removed without scoring run.
Finally, New Zealand lost 9 wickets in 50 overs and accumulated 259 runs. Radha Yadav took a maximum of 4 wickets for India. Chasing 260 runs, Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana gave a joint start for the Indian team. But Lea Tahuhu dismissed Mandhana (0) in her second ball. Then, Jess Kerr was eventually trapped lbw to Mandhana for 11. But Wicketkeeper Yastika Bhatia who stepped up into the crease started on a promising note, but Lea Tahuhu dismissed her for 12.
After that, Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues slowly started to fight back for India. But the New Zealand captain dismissed Jemimah Rodrigues for just 17 and Harmanpreet Kaur for 24 runs. Then, Tejal Hasabnis and Deepti Sharma were stepped up into the crease. But Eden Carson dismissed Hasabnis for 15 and Arundhati Reddy for just 2 runs. In the very next over, Deepti Sharma was also dismissed for 15 runs by Lea Tahuhu.
After that, Saima Thakor and Radha Yadav who entered the field with a pair, formed an excellent partnership. But Jess Kerr dismissed Saima Thakor for 29 off 54 which included 3 fours and Sophie Devine removed Radha Yadav for 48 off 54 which included 5 fours. At last, India lost all the wickets in 47.1 overs and accumulated only 183 runs. Finally, New Zealand thrashed India by 74 runs and leveled the series. The series decider match will be played at the same venue on Tuesday, October 29.
