Indian Women’s team thrashed England by 7 wickets in the finals of the inaugural U-19 T20I World Cup at the Senwes Park in Potchefstroom. Women in Blue produced a brilliant performance in all three departments to outclass England and clinched a historic title victory at the 2023 ICC Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup. Indian women first made it to the final of a World Cup 18 years ago, during the 2005 ODI World Cup. Many cricketers congratulated the teenage Indian girls who scripted history on Sunday.

After opting to bowl first, Titas Sadhu gave India a good start by dismissing Liberty Heap for a duck in the very first over. Archana devi then stunned England by picking up two wickets in the fourth over. She cleaned up Niamh Holland for 10 and England captain Grace Scrivens for just 4.

Ryana MacDonald-Gay looked to play an anchoring role before departing for 19. England women never found their rhythm going and kept losing regular wickets. A superb bowling performance coupled with some outstanding fielding helped India to bowl out England for a below-par total of 68 in 17.1 overs.

India’s Captain Shafali Verma looked to give her side a quick start by smashing a four and a humongous six. But she mistimed a chip shot and departed for 15.

Shweta Sehrawat went back for just 5. England did well to restrict runs for India through some tight bowling and sharp fielding. But Soumya Tiwari (24*) and Gongadi Trisha (24) stitched a vital partnership to give India their first-ever World Cup title in women’s cricket.
