Indian women exhibited a phenomenal performance to crush South Africa by 10 wickets in the final T20I match on Tuesday. Women in Blue finished the three-match series 1-1 with a dominating win, registering their biggest win in T20Is against the Proteas. Chasing an easy target of 85, Smriti Mandhana continued her fine form with the bat, playing a top-scoring knock of 54* while Shafali Verma remained unbeaten on 27.
Put into bat first, South Africa batted well for the initial couple of overs. But Shreyanka Patil turned on the heat by dismissing the Proteas captain Laura Wolvaardt for 9. In the next over, Pooja Vastrakar removed the most experienced Marizanne Kapp (10) to put the Proteas under huge pressure. Tazmin Brits and Anneke Bosch tried to steady their innings but Indian bowlers had other plans.
Deepti Sharma got the better of Brits, who top-scored with 20. Vastrakar then hammered the visitors with a double blow in the 10th over. Indian women never allowed the Proteas to regain their momentum and eventually, bowled them out for just 84 in 17.1 overs. Vastrakar starred with a four-wicket haul while Radha Yadav finished with three wickets.
In reply, Mandhana and Shafali never allowed the Proteas bowlers to creep into the game. Shafali batted steadily while Mandhana played an attacking innings right from the start. Although the Proteas bowled with so many variations, they failed to take a wicket. Mandhana smashed a beautiful six over deep square leg to finish off things in style for India.
