India produced a clinical performance to outclass West Indies in the Women’s Tri-nation series

Indian Women produced a dominant performance to outclass West Indies by 8 wickets in the final league match of the tri-nation series. Another clinical display from the bowlers helped India to register a comprehensive win at Buffalo Park. India has won three of their four games with one white-washed. Chasing a small target of 95, Jemmiah Rodrigues and captain Harmanpreet Kaur controlled the chase and remained unbeaten on 42 and 32 respectively to seal the win.

With India opting to bowl, Deepti Sharma triggered West Indies’ slide with her flight and dip. The off-spinner first cleaned up Windies captain Rashada Williams for 8 and then dismissed Shemaine Campbelle for a golden duck. Left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad trapped Djenaba Joseph (3) in front before Hayley Matthews and Shabika Gajnabi held fort.

Pooja Vastrakar managed to remove Matthews who top-scored with a knock of 34. Zaida James hit two huge sixes and showed her skills to chip in with a crucial 21-run knock toward the end. West Indies managed to post 94/6 in 20 overs, an indication of how much their batters had struggled. Deepti starred with figures of 3/11 while Vastrakar bagged two wickets.

India in reply lost Smriti Mandhana (5) early after she missed a dipper from Shamilia Connell. Harleen Deol chipped in with 13 while Rodrigues remained fluent on a slow track, finding gaps and cashing in on the width offered by the Windies pacers. Harmanpreet played her natural game and added 54 runs alongside Rodrigues in 40 balls to clinch victory. The final will be played between India and South Africa on February 2 (Thursday).
