Gujarat Titans produced a clinical chase to beat Rajasthan Royals and advanced to the IPL 2022 final. Chasing a big target of 189, David Miller played a blistering knock of unbeaten 68 while Hardik Pandya scored an unbeaten 40-run as the IPL debutant overhauled the target with three balls to spare. Both played the starring roles to enter the final with a seven-wicket win over RR at Eden Gardens. Miller smashed a hat-trick of sixes to finish off in style.
After opting to bowl first, GT made a good start as Yash Dayal drew early blood by dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal for just 3. Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson batted beautifully to add 68-runs for the wicket. Samson fell just short of his half-century.
Devdutt Padikkal played sensibly to chip in with 28-runs before Pandya cleaned him up. Shimron Hetmyer, who plays the finisher role well, failed to make an impact. After the wicket of these two, Buttler kept Rajasthan in contention for a big score. Buttler’s 89 off 56 balls propelled Rajasthan Royals to 188/6.
Trent Boult stunned the Titans by dismissing Wriddhiman Saha for a duck. But Shubman Gill (35) and Matthew Wade (35) batted well to put up a strong 72-run stand. Gill departed after a horrible run-out while Buttler took a brilliant catch to dismiss Wade.
Miller and Pandya played anchoring innings to share an unbeaten 106-run stand for the fourth wicket in just 61 balls. Miller hit the required 17-runs in the final over with ease to seal a remarkable win.
