Chennai Super Kings bowlers held their nerves to beat RCB in a high-scoring thriller

Chennai Super Kings bowlers kept calm and produced a brilliant effort to beat Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 8 runs in a run-fest at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Chasing a huge target of 227, Glenn Maxwell and skipper Faf du Plessis played terrific knocks of 76 and 62 respectively to raise the hopes of an RCB victory. But CSK bowlers took regular wickets to turn the tides. Needing 19 runs in the final over, Suyash Prabhudessai hit a six in the third ball, however, Matheesha Pathirana successfully defended 11 runs in three balls to secure a thrilling win for CSK.

Batting first, CSK lost Ruturaj Gaikwad (3) early but Devon Conway and Ajinkya Rahane (37) gave a decent start by adding 90 runs in 9.2 overs before Wanindu Hasaranga cleaned up Rahane. Conway and Shivam Dube batted aggressively and hit RCB bowlers all around the park to score quick runs, adding 80 runs in just 33 balls.

In the 16th over, Harshal Patel gave the much-needed breakthrough by bowling out Conway who top-scored with a blistering knock of 83. Dube hit a few monstrous sixes to reach his half-century before Mohammed Siraj took a fine catch to dismiss him. Moeen Ali played a cameo of 19 as CSK posted a mammoth total of 226/6 in 20 overs.

In reply, RCB lost their star batter Virat Kohli in an unlucky fashion while Tushar Deshpande dismissed Mahipal Lomror for a duck. But Du Plessis and Maxwell added 126 runs for the third wicket in no time. Maheesh Theekshana made the crucial breakthrough by dismissing Maxwell. In the next over, Moeen bagged Du Plessis. Dinesh Karthik and Prabhudessai chipped in with 28 and 19 but failed to take RCB home.
