Bowlers dominated Day 1 play; South Africa leads by 34 runs

Dhaka: The South African cricket team has started their full-fledged Bangladesh tour to play a 2-match Test cricket series. The first Test match between these two teams was started on October 21 at Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka city. In this match, the Bangladesh team, who won the toss, announced that they would bat first. The Bangladesh openers Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Shadman Islam gave a joint start for the team. But Wiaan Mulder dismissed Shadman Islam (0), Mominul Haque (4), and Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto (7) in successive overs.

Bangladesh was teetering at 40-4 when Kagiso Rabada bowled out Mushfiqur Rahim for 11 runs off 20 balls, which included 2 fours, as South Africa celebrated reaching the 300-wicket landmark. Soon after, Kagiso Rabada made it 301 Test wickets and sent wicketkeeper Litton Das to the pavilion at the speed of just one run. So, Bangladesh was stymied early on at 45-5.

But on the other side, opener Hasan Joy struggled and got out for 30 runs off 97 deliveries, which included 2 fours and a six for the team that was expected to cross 100 runs. At last, Keshav Maharaj dismissed Jaker Ali (2) and Taijul Islam (16), and Kagiso Rabada dismissed Nayeem Hassan for just 8 runs.

In the end, the team that played first could not withstand the excellent bowling of the South African team and lost all the wickets in just 40.1 overs and accumulated only 106 runs. Seamers Wiaan Mulder, Kagiso Rabada, and left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj took a maximum of 3 wickets each for the South African team.

Chasing 107 runs, the South African team openers Aiden Markram and Tony de Zorzi stepped up into the crease. But right-arm seamer Hasan Mahmud brought Bangladesh the first success in the first over after the innings change, removing South African captain Aiden Markram for 6 runs off 7 deliveries. After that, Taijul Islam accounted for Tristan Stubbs for 23 runs and removed David Bedingham for 11 runs, with a low delivery that the batter edged to the keeper for a soft dismissal.

And then, Taijul Islam bagged two wickets in the 28th over of South Africa’s innings, with Tony de Zorzi caught at short leg for 30 runs off 72 balls, which included 4 fours before he clean-bowled debutant Matthew Breetzke for a duck. At last, Taijul Islam dismissed Ryan Rickelton for 27 runs off 49 deliveries, which included 4 fours.

At the end of the first day’s innings, the South African team, who played their first innings, lost 6 wickets and accumulated 140 runs. With this, the second day’s match will be played tomorrow with a lead of 34 runs. Wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne had 18 from 32* and Wiaan Mulder with 17 from 31* runs in the field. In this case, the fast bowler Kagiso Rabada, who played on behalf of the South African team during this match, has achieved a great feat in Test cricket.
