Team India produced a dominating performance with both bat and ball to beat Australia by 99 runs at Holkar Stadium on Sunday. Men in Blue have clinched the series 2-0 with a remarkable win. India would hope to white-wash the Australians when they take on the visitors in the final and third ODI on September 27. Chasing a revised target of 317, the Australian batters struggled to score runs as Indian bowlers kept taking wickets regularly. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja starred with three-wicket hauls.

Batting first, India lost Ruturaj Gaikwad (8) early to Josh Hazlewood. However, the explosive combo of Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer produced a spectacular partnership that rejuvenated the Indian innings. Gill and Iyer’s partnership was relentless, culminating in a remarkable 200-run stand for the second wicket. Iyer reached his third ODI century in 86 balls while Gill hit his sixth ODI century in 92 balls.

Sean Abbott gave the much-needed breakthrough by dismissing Iyer (105) and then shortly Cameron Green removed Gill for 104. India’s stand-in captain KL Rahul (52) played some brilliant shots to bring up his half-century before Green cleaned him up. Suryakumar Yadav continued his explosive form, reaching his second successive ODI fifty in just 24 balls. His late fireworks propelled India to a formidable total of 399/5, the highest against Australia in ODIs.

In reply, Prasidh Krishna gave India a superb start by dismissing Matt Short (9) and Steve Smith (0) in the second over. David Warner (53) and Marnus Labuschagne (27) rebuilt the Australian innings by adding 80 runs, but Ashwin shifted the momentum towards India by dismissing both the batters in his successive overs. Abbott played a fine knock of 54 but lacked support at the other end and eventually, Australia lost the game.
