Mumbai Indians (MI) secured their maiden win of IPL 2023, defeating Delhi Capitals (DC) by 6 wickets in a final over thriller at Arun Jaitley Stadium. With this loss, DC is now at the bottom of the table after losing four games in a row. Chasing a stiff 173, MI skipper Rohit Sharma top-scored with a brilliant knock of 65 while Tilak Varma contributed with a crucial knock of 41.
Batting first, David Warner and Prithvi Shaw gave their side a decent start, adding 33 runs in 3.3 0vers. Shaw yet again failed to make an impact with his batting as Hrithik Shikeen dismissed him for 15. Warner and Manish Pandey looked to steady the DC innings, stitching a 43-run partnership before Piyush Chawla removed Pandey (26).
DC then lost three wickets in no time but DC captain Warner played an anchoring innings to bring up his third half-century of the season. He alongside Axar Patel added 67 runs for the sixth wicket. Patel slammed a blistering 54 off just 25 balls and helped DC to reach a defendable score of 172.Both Chawla and Jason Behrendorff starred with a three-wicket haul for MI.
MI in reply had a terrific start as Rohit and Ishan Kishan scored quick runs by hitting boundaries. Both added 71 runs before Mukesh Kumar produced a brilliant effort to run out Kishan (31). Rohit alongside Tilak added a crucial 68 runs for the second wicket, before Mukesh opened the contest yet again in the 16th over by dismissing Tilak and then scalping Suryakumar Yadav for a golden duck. Rohit, who scored his first half-since 2021, went back after Abishek Porel grabbed a spectacular catch. Tim David (13) and Cameron Green (17) took MI in the final ball of the match.
