KL Rahul is doubtful to be a part of the Indian squad for the fifth Test against England

India has taken an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match Test series against England. But the BCCI selection committee and Team India’s head coach Rahul Dravid are in a fix about a couple of players ahead of the fifth and final Test, hoping to finish the series on the high as 4-1. The last chapter of the fantastic series will be played in Dharamsala from March 7. Although there is still considerable time for the test match, the Indian side led by Rohit Sharma is worried about the fitness of senior batter KL Rahul.

According to reports, the wicketkeeper-batter has flown to London to consult a specialist after he continued to feel discomfort and pain in his right quadriceps, the injury that kept him out from the second, third, and fourth Tests of the series. The experienced batter underwent surgery for the same injury last year.

The selectors will likely take a call on the Indian squad when the players are supposed to regroup in Chandigarh on March 2. If Rahul does not regain his full fitness, then the selectors will have to continue with Rajat Patidar. However, a BCCI source revealed that the selectors want to release Patidar from the squad.

The 30-year-old batter failed to perform well and wasted the opportunities given to him so far in the series. In six innings, Patidar’s highest score was 32 and registered two ducks. The team management wants Patidar to play in the Ranji semifinal and find some form. If Patidar is released, then the doors could open for Devdutt Padikkal.
