Indian bowlers showed a great never-give-up attitude and produced a brilliant effort to bowl out England for 292, winning the second Test by 106 runs on Day 4. With a comfortable win, Rohit Sharma-led side has leveled the five-match series 1-1. India’s win has spiced up the Test series as both teams will look to deliver their best and win the third Test to take a lead. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin starred for India with excellent bowling performances, taking three wickets each.
Earlier, in the first session of Day 4, England was in the driver’s seat as its batters did not show any sign of pressure and scored runs with ease. After a long fight, Team India came roaring back with a flurry of wickets towards the end of the session. Axar Patel gave India the initial breakthrough by trapping Rehan Ahmed LBW for 23. A few moments later, Ashwin got the wicket of Ollie Pope (23) when India’s skipper Rohit took a fabulous catch at first slip.
Ashwin struck again in his next over to send off England’s most experienced batter Joe Root. India got into a strong position after Kuldeep Yadav and Bumrah gave England a double blow. Kuldeep dismissed the well-settled opener Zak Crawley, who played a classical knock of 73. In the very next over, Bumrah got the better of dangerous Jonny Bairstow.
England’s captain Ben Stokes and wicketkeeper-batter Ben Foakes seemed to take their side through tea. But Stokes was sent back to the dressing room after Shreyas Iyer produced a magnificent direct hit. Tom Hartley then stepped in and upped the ante. He and Foakes (36) stitched a 55-run partnership before the latter fell to Bumrah. Shoaib Bashir then became Mukesh Kumar’s first wicket of the game. Bumrah finished off the game by cleaning up Hartley (36), taking his ninth wicket of the match.
