New Delhi: 2024-25 Australia’s Border Gavaskar Trophy Test series against India at home starts in November. At home, Australia have lost their last two series against India. After 2014, Australia did not win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India even once in the previous 10 years.
India aims to retain the trophy. India, the defending champion entering this year’s series riding high on their dominance in recent Border-Gavaskar contests, have won four consecutive series, including two historic victories on Australian soil in 2018-19 and 2020-21. Since 2014-15, Australia has not won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.
But at this time, Australia is gearing up to defeat India somehow. The Pakistan Test head coach and Australian fast bowler Jason Gillespie, who has joined the line-up, said, “Australia will win India in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, citing the strength of their bowlers with the highest quality and experience of their country, like Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Nathan Lyon as the key weapons for Australia in the Test series, will play this time. So, this time, India cannot beat Australia like the last 2 series.”
Gillespie voiced his support for his homeland, and speaking on Fox Sports, “I will be backing them in, and I can assure that this time they can do the job. Because they are the best bowlers in the country. Their achievements will speak for them. This quartet has the potential to bowl, but they need to excel in the field. Especially Nathon Lyon is the best possible bowling attack that Australia can put out in the park.
On the other hand, the Indian team is red-hot. Because they have been playing wonderful Test cricket for a long time. Even though India has beaten Australia in recent times. I think this time Australia has a chance to beat India around,” he added. Meanwhile, there has been significant debate about whether Steve Smith should continue as an opener for Australia or return to the middle order. Gillespie believes the veteran batter should ideally bat at No. 4 for the Australian team.
Jason Gillespie added, “Warner has been the wonderful player for Australia for a long time. Players like David Warner are pretty tough to replace. I didn’t think the idea of Steve Smith playing up in the order. I feel that Smith might have a slot back in the middle order to bat at 4″. At last, the coach signed off by saying, “It was pretty disappointing; you want to win games in cricket. Our team prepared well, but we were just beaten by a better team. We have a lot of work to do, and there is no doubt about that too. Around the country, there was a lot of disappointment, but there was also an understanding and acceptance that change was needed. We need to be patient. There is a real appetite for stability; hopefully, we can secure that.”.
