The much-awaited and entertaining cash-rich cricket league, the Indian Premier League (IPL) is just two days away. IPL 2024 is set to begin with a blockbuster opening clash between defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in a South Indian derby at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday, March 22.
Ahead of the IPL opener, CSK batting coach Michael Hussey revealed that Captain Cool MS Dhoni is preparing well for the upcoming season, and at the moment he is batting extremely well. He’s preparing really well. His knee seems good at this stage. And he’s batting extremely well at the moment. I must admit he’s like Benjamin Button and he keeps getting better, said Hussey in an inter-college T20 Cricket in Chennai.
Hussey further expressed that the former Indian captain would find it difficult to run between the wickets during batting. He’s not as young as he used to be. So, the scampering between the wickets is going to be more difficult for him. But at the back end of the innings, where there’s not as much sprinting, he can still hit the ball very cleanly. And he’s hitting the ball extremely well at the moment. It’s great to see, the 48-year-old Australian added.
In a recent interview, CSK’s head coach Stephen Fleming claimed that Dhoni arrives early for the pre-season training and spends more time with young Indian players. Given the age of some of the players and the amount of cricket they are playing, our pre-season has extended over the years. So, Dhoni takes a very strong role there and he needs some volume, so he goes in early and the players just gravitate towards that, Fleming said.
