Cameron Green’s massive ton powered MI to seal a berth in the playoffs

An exhibition of power-hitting from Cameron Green powered Mumbai Indians (MI) to thrash Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 8 wickets at the Wankhede. MI claimed a spot in the playoffs with a comprehensive win. Green played a brutal knock of unbeaten 100 off 47 balls, helping his side to easily chase a big target of 201 with two overs to spare. MI skipper Rohit Sharma too joined the party with a fine knock of 57.

Earlier, Vivrant Sharma and Mayank Agarwal gave SRH a superb start, adding 140 runs for the first wicket. SRH openers played some delightful shots and made things hard for MI by scoring runs at a quick rate. After a long try, finally, Akash Madhwal managed to break the deadly opening partnership in the 14 over, dismissing Vivrant for 69.

Madhwal then removed Agarwal who played a brilliant knock of 83. In the penultimate over, Madhwal struck twice to add more pressure on SRH. It seemed as if SRH would reach 220-plus but Madhwal and Chris Jordan bowled well to pull things back for the hosts, restricting SRH to 200/5 in 20 overs.

MI’s chase had a shaky start as Bhuvneshwar Kumar bagged hard-hitting Ishan Kishan (14) in the third over. But Green showed his aggressive intent right from the first ball he faced. The Australian all-rounder smashed SRH bowlers all over the park, adding 128 runs alongside Rohit for the second wicket. Suryakumar Yadav remained unbeaten on 25 when MI completed the chase.

Later in the day, Royal Challengers Bangalore failed to make it to the playoffs as they lost the final league match against Gujarat Titans by 6 wickets. Virat Kohli’s second ton of the season went in vain as RCB bowlers failed to defend 197 runs.
