The Indian men’s team, captained by Rohit Sharma, defeated South Africa by seven runs to win the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, ending their 13-year wait for an ICC Cricket World Cup title. This victory occurred over three months ago. India will now be hoping that the women’s cricket team makes history as well. Women in Blue will have a chance to win the illusive trophy at the ICC T20 World Cup, which will take place in Dubai and Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (UAE), from October 3–20.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the 15-member India squad for the ICC tournament on Tuesday. Senior batter Harmanpreet will lead the team while Smriti Mandhana will serve as the vice-captain. The selectors have chosen to have a stable group, hence there are no new players on the team.
India may struggle in the competition because they haven’t faced some of the more formidable international teams in the past six months. However, there isn’t much that is unclear about the opponents. The team should benefit from the familiarity. At the World Cup, Harmanpreet and company are hoping that their hard work in the fielding and bowling departments will pay off.
Subject to fitness, all-rounder Shreyanka Patil and wicket-keeper Yastika Bhatia have been added to the team, while wicket-keeper Uma Chetry, Tanuja Kanwer, and Saima Thakor have been placed in the traveling reserves. India will play two warm-up matches against the West Indies and South Africa.
